Dryden Literacy Association (DLA) O/A Bridges Dryden & Area Adult Learning Centre (Bridges) is committed to protecting and safeguarding the privacy and security of customer, partner and other personal information (“Personal Information”). This policy has been implemented to comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (the “Act”) which came into effect on January 1, 2004.

Personal Information is defined as information about an identifiable individual including client information pertaining to the use of Bridges Dryden & Area Adult Learning Centre provided in writing, orally or by other electronic means. Personal Information does not include information that is business contact information, is publicly available information such as customer names, addresses, telephone numbers, and electronic addresses when listed in a public directory or made available through another publicly available directory or other sources.

Bridges keeps your Personal Information secure and uses it only as necessary and as is authorized.


Bridges is accountable for the Personal Information under its control and it’s Board of Directors has designated the Program Director to oversee and hold all employees . There are other individuals within the organization who have responsibility for the day-to-day collection and management of Personal Information.

  • Generally, Bridges collects Personal Information for the following reasons:
  • To establish and maintain donor records;
  • To understand client needs and obtain feedback on the services provided;
  • To track and report client progress;
  • To be accountable to funding bodies for Project and Financial obligations;
  • To meet legal and regulatory requirements; and
  • To gather statistical data from website usage

Bridges collects Personal Information by fair and lawful means and obtains the individual’s consent for the collection, use or disclosure of said Personal Information, as required by the Act or other laws.

The consent may be expressed, implied or given through an authorized representative.

A client or authorized representative may withdraw consent to use his or her Personal Information at any time, subject to any legal or contractual restrictions upon written notice.


Bridges limits the collection of Personal Information to that which is reasonably necessary for the identified purpose(s).

Bridges does not use or disclose Personal Information for purposes other than those for which it was collected, except with the consent of the individual or stakeholder, or as permitted or required by law.

Bridges retains Personal Information only as long as is necessary for the fulfillment of those purposes or as required by law.

Bridges will take reasonable steps to ensure that only employees who need to know or whose duties so require, are granted access to client information.

Bridges takes reasonable steps to maintain Personal Information accurate, complete and up to date as is necessary for the identified purpose(s). Clients or authorized representatives are responsible to update Bridges of changes to personal information.


Bridges keeps Personal Information from unauthorized access, use and disclosure by establishing and maintaining security safeguards in line with governing authorities.
